Gabor Paneth's father's family house in Papa

The house in Papa where my father Lajos was born. It was next to the Orthodox synagogue. I took this photo in 1955 when my father took me to Papa to show me where he was born. The house looked the same in the 1950s as before the war. For my father it was very important to tell me what the life was like in his childhood. Before World War Two he had lived as a traditional Jew. He was the kind of Jew who had a constant personal relationship with the Creator, but in 1944 he had a serious quarrel with Him. Later, as he was getting old, he came to terms with Him again and their earlier close relationship was restored.
