Program Highlights
Budapest
- tour the Dohany Synagague, the Danube Shoe Memorial, the Holocaust Museum, and the city with expert guides
- meet Holocaust survivors from the Budapest Jewish community
- attend a Shabbat service
- learn about Communism in Hungary and Hungarian life since the fall of Communism
- learn how the Holocaust is taught in different countries from experts in those countries.
Enroute to Belgrade
- we will stop in Subotica to visit their newly renovated synagogue, one of the finest surviving pieces of religious architecture in the art nouveau style
- then on to Novi Sad where we will take a short walking tour of Jewish Novi Sad and visit the monument to the victims of the raid in Novi Sad in WWII, where we will read short excerpts of Centropa interviews.
Belgrade
- walk in the footsteps of the Kalef family, Centropa interviewees
- tour Jewish Belgrade
- visit Staro Sajmiste, a former fairground turned into a concentration camp during the German occupation
- explore Serbia’s bustling capital
- Sephardic music concert
- visit the Jewish cemetery, and learn how the Jewish population was almost completely wiped out during the Holocaust.
