Mother and two of us children were caught by the war in our summerhouse in Strelna, a resort just outside Leningrad. I was born in Strelna, where my parents spent one of the summers. In June 1941, when the Germans occupied Ligovo and were very close to Strelna, my mother, me and my elder sister went rushing along Peterhoff highway to Leningrad.
