My parents knew that Hitler came to power. I personally wasn’t concerned, but I remember a widespread feeling of alarm. Rumors about Hitler’s attitude towards Jews reached us from Polish refugees. But at that time there was some kind of mass hypnosis in the Soviet Union. Everyone believed that we were the strongest and the best and that Lenin and Stalin were the wisest and most caring leaders.
