Alexander Ugolev and his cousins

This is a photo of me together with Semen and Maya Khutoretsky. Our parents wanted this photograph to be taken. I remember that we took it in the photo studio near the Narva Gates in Leningrad. It happened approximately in 1936.

At that time Semen and Maya lived on Gaz avenue. My cousin Semen was a little older than me. He was born on 28th August 1927. His sister Maya was born in 1932. Their father Yosif also was at the front and returned home. Before the war he served at the railway guard forces, Fontanka embankment, 117. During the war he served in railway troops. During the war Dorah, their mother, together with Semen and Maya, stayed presumably in Yoshkar-Ola.

By now Maya has already died; her husband Nizon Unussov, son Alexander Unussov and her granddaughter Ekaterina are alive.

Semen is alive, we do our best to keep in touch with him. We live next door to each other. He is married to a Russian girl. Her name is Nina. The Khutoretskys and the Ugolevs disliked her for a long time, but she appeared to be very kind, a sensitive and clever person. They finally considered her to be one of us only after several years. She is a doctor. Semen and Nina have a son, Mark. He is visually impaired, but despite of it, Mark is very active and vigorous, with a bright intellect. At present he successfully develops his small business and helps his parents.
