Zorica and Anton Gjebic, cousins of Hana Gasic
These are my cousins, Zorica (left) and Anton Gjebic (right). Their mother was my mother's sister, my Aunt Ela. Ela married their father, a Catholic named Zvonko Gjebic, before the war, and moved with him to Uzica. When she converted to Catholism she also changed her name to Jela, and that is how she was known to others, but we always called her "Aunt Ela" Her husband had some special skills and was recruited to work in the Fomu ammunition factory in Uzica. My aunt Ela was able to survive the war because of her marriage to a non-Jew and her new identity. Today they live in Kragujevac, Serbia.
