This distant relative of mine in Cracow, who was the Jewish community’s assignee, came to see me one day and says: ‘Listen, there’s this young guy getting married, all alone, his whole family killed, and for him to get married they need two witnesses. Come with me.’ He didn’t even know the guy’s name. So we turned up – the wedding was at the rabbi’s place – I look… and it’s my cousin Lieblich, Stefan Lieblich [the second son of Mrs. Leibel’s maternal aunt Mania]. He didn’t know I was alive, and I didn’t know he was alive.
