walked back to Tomashpol. We had nothing to lose. My brother was 6 years old and I was 11. We covered the distance of 20 km between Miastkovka and Tomashpol. When we returned we found our house with broken windows and doors and empty rooms. The robbers ignored grandmother and Surka or her two daughters that were in the house. Residents from neighboring villages robbed Jewish houses. However, we didn’t have much of interest to robbers. Our Ukrainian neighbor Sichkar guarded our house telling others to stay away from his neighbor Yurkovetski’s house. Our neighbors brought us some clothing and we began to settle down.
