Selected text
Then in the second grade of council school my father arranged a German teacher for me. From that time on I had no problems reading German. With grammar it was worse. When I was attending high school, I didn't study it at all. During composition exercises my book was constantly marked in red with corrected grammatical mistakes. To this day, writing a letter in German is a problem for me. I always have to pick up at least some fat dictionary for help. Then at school, I was taught by Hilda Wernerova, who was from one Jewish family from Orlova that had a soda bottling plant or some sort of factory.
