On Saturday my father went to the synagogue and I carried his book of prayers for him. My father sang very well. He usually recited prayers at the synagogue. On Saturday I turned on the lights and started the stove at home: according to Jewish laws I could do it before turning 13 years of age. My mother left our Saturday meal in the stove. On Sabbath we had beautiful silver candle stands with candles in them, kosher wine and freshly baked challah on the table.
