My paternal great grandfather Fikelman had four sons. To avoid service in the army [ single sons in families were not subject to the army service] the rabbi registered his sons as children of his distant childless relatives. Therefore, there were members of the family with different surnames - Vilenskiy, Khazanov, Kopperschmidt – in my great grandfather’s family.
